About us
Intro
Welcome to Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) which is comprised of four campuses; Bishopstown, Crawford College of Art, Cork School of Music and National Maritime College of Ireland. Becoming a part of such a large college can be a daunting experience but we at the CIT LGBT Society can help.
The CIT LGBT society provides an environment in which LGBT students can be themselves, meet new people and join social events throughout the year. Everyone is welcome to join the society, regardless of their sexuality. We’re not here to judge or label you, just to provide a platform where you can meet new people and maybe experience something a little different.
Aims
The society has a mainly social focus, providing a networking service for LGBT students in the college. It caters for those who are openly gay and for those in the process of coming out. Support and advice are also available to those dealing with the issues raised by their sexuality and the society works closely with the Students Union Welfare Officer to ensure the health and safety of LGBT students in the CIT.
Besides these aspects the society has also developed a political agenda and aims is to promote tolerance amongst CIT students and increase LGBT visibility within the college.
Meetings & Events
During the term the society meets every Wednesday at 7pm in meeting room 2, second floor students centre and everyone is welcome (look out for the posters on noticeboards throughout the college). What goes on at the meetings? Well they’re usually very informal, we chat about the pressing issues of the day and discuss any society business. Meetings can sometimes be held at different venues for special events and we frequently end up in one of the bars in town to socialise after the meeting.
